National Public Health Week

National Public Health Week (NPHW) is observed April 7-13, 2025, to bring attention to public health and prevention. NPHW was organized 30 years ago by the American Public Health Association. It seeks to remind us all that public health is not just for a single person, public health is for you, your family, your friends and everyone in your community. Public health affects how we all live, work, and play. It is integral to protecting our safety and well-being (APHA, 2025).

Each year, a specific theme is selected to raise awareness of public health topics, and this year is no different. This year’s theme is “It Starts Here”. Throughout the week, several priority areas will be highlighted. They are:

  • It Starts Here: Your Health is Our Mission
  • Climate Action Starts Here: Championing Resilience for Health
  • Health Equity Starts Here: Optimizing Health for All
  • Advocacy Starts Here: Amplifying Voices for Public Health
  • The Future of Public Health Starts Here: Strengthening the Public Health Workforce

Beginning today, we will begin bringing some of the information provided by the APHA to you here. Stay tuned and follow along for ways that you can become involved in improving the health of you, your family, friends, community, and our nation.
